The Benue state government has decided to set aside political sentiments following allegations of murder against some officials. The state Executive Council has suspended its Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Sekav Iyortyom, for three months pending the determination of an alleged murder charges against him.
Also suspended from office for three months, is the Sole Administrator of Buruku Local Government Area, David Yiman, who is also facing murder charges.
Iyortyom and six others were recently declared wanted by the police in connection with the alleged assassination of Joseph Tondo, a chairmanship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Buruku local government area. State Information and Orientation Commissioner, Odeh Ageh, made this known at the end of the weekly State Executive Council meeting in Makurdi.
He said: “The decision of the council would be communicated to the state House of Assembly, which will also be requested to approve an acting Sole Administrator for Buruku.
"I must emphasise that the council took the decision in line with the policy of the Ortom administration to comply with the Rule of Law and due process.
“At the end of three months, the council may review its decision, depending the outcome of the charges.”
According to Ageh, those involved would have to clear their names over the allegations of murder leveled against them.
