As part of securing the proper governance of Nigeria, the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, has warned administrative officers against exposure of sensitive military documents, saying this could be injurious to the nation.
Buratai who was represented by Idris Alkali, gave the advice on Thursday at the Command Headquarters of the 2 Division, Nigeria Army, Ibadan,
The forum was the opening ceremony of a workshop organised for administrative officers of the command and was devoted to office management and document security.
Buratai, who noted that the command was aware of the importance of administrative officers in the management and handling of highly classified documents, said:
“The exposure of these documents may by injurious to national security, especially now that the country is facing challenges of insecurity.
“Keeping these documents tight and secure is very important and you are to be alert to your duty and responsibilities.
“Consequences of your inactions can cause an irreparable loss to the nation.
“Be careful in the way you discuss service matters on social media and try as much as possible not to compromise information as administrative officers of the command.’’
The workshop, he said, could not have come at a better time as it would offer participants new insight on how to secure military documents.
The army chief, who urged the officers to take the workshop seriously, commended those who partnered to ensure the success of the forum.
Chukwunedum Abraham, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Division, said that the topic of the workshop was carefully selected to cover important aspects of management and securing of documents.
Abraham urged the participants to keep an open mind and participate actively so as to derive maximum benefits from the workshop.
He expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff for making the workshop a reality, saying regular training at all level was very important in the military.
