A South-West Zonal Executive faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on all members to unite following the Supreme Court verdict affirming the leadership of the Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Commi!ttee.
The faction after an emergency meeting in Lagos on Tuesday, said it was through unity that the party could do well in future elections.
The chairman of the faction, Makanjuola Qgundipe, who read the communiqué, said continued internal wranglings after the court verdict was not good for the party.
He alleged that some prominent party members were latching on the Supreme Court verdict to cause further division in the party and emphasised that the verdict was not victory for any group but for all members.
He appealed that the verdict should not be used to seek selfish advantages adding that the Supreme Court ruling did not sack the leadership in the zone and other people parading themselves as members of the Zonal Executive were impostors.
“We congratulate the National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party under the leadership of Ahmed Makarfi on the resolution of the national leadership tussle.
“We note that the judgment of the apex court is not a victory for anyone but our great party and democracy.
“We commend Makarfi for the maturity and candour displayed so far in the handling of party matters since the July 12 verdict.
“We note that the Chairman has said no member of the party would be victimised or punished for supporting anyone.
“We however observed with great concern the activities of some impostors and errand boys parading themselves as members of South -West Zonal Exco.
“These people are products of a contraption as their leadership has already been nullified by the Federal High Court, Lagos in suit no. FHC/L/CS/605/2016.†he said.
Ogundipe said he remained the validly elected chairman of the party in the zone, adding that the tenure of the Executive he led would expire on October 11, 2018 according to the congress that produced it in Oyo state in 2014.
He said Ekiti Governor, Ayo Fayose and some other governors in the PDP were still fanning the embers of discord after the Supreme Court verdict.
