PDP maintains lead over APC in Rivers re-run

Notwithstanding the controversies that hovered around last Saturday's Rivers re-run, ongoing collation of results entered day four on Tuesday with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leading the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A total of 21 seats were contested in the election – three in the Senate, eight at the House of Representatives, and 10 at the State House of Assembly.

So far, 12 results have been announced, with the PDP taking seven, leaving its opponent with five.

All the Senatorial election results have been declared. PDP won two seats, while APC has one. Of the five results declared in the house of reps, PDP has 3, and APC 2.

There is a tie at the State House of Assembly, where four results have been announced with the two parties having two each.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) puts the blame on the delay in declaration of results on widespread violence.

Mustapha Lecky, the INEC’s National Commissioner in charge of South-South, disclosed this at a press conference in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
